My journey: from addiction to a new heart

Sobriety to Church was born out of brokenness, redemption, and surrender. Here is how facing consequences, walking the 12 steps, and trusting in Jesus Christ transformed my life and gave me a lasting purpose.

Confronting consequences and finding recovery

Eventually, my drinking contributed to a devastating tragedy that changed my life and the lives of others forever. I faced serious consequences, including incarceration, and had to confront the reality of my choices. There was no way to undo what had happened, but I had to decide what I would do with the life still ahead of me.

I started with Alcoholics Anonymous, embraced the 12 steps, and began doing the difficult inner work. I learned quickly that putting down alcohol was essential, but lasting healing required a profound shift in my spirit and mind.

Surrender and the promise of a renewed spirit

I had attended church earlier in life, but I had never learned what it truly meant to surrender my pain and guilt to Jesus Christ. Through Bible study, constant prayer, and honest Christian fellowship, I developed an authentic relationship with God rather than just sitting in a pew.

Ezekiel 11:19 became my guiding light: God promised to give us a new heart and replace a heart of stone with a heart of flesh. Faith helped me heal past wounds and live out real change in my daily choices.

Walking together toward hope and church community

I started S2C — Sobriety to Church — not as a professional counselor, but as someone walking this path alongside you. I want to encourage anyone struggling with addiction, beginning recovery, returning to church, or wondering if God still has a purpose for their life.

My past will always remain part of my testimony, but it is not the only chapter. Together, through fellowship, meetings, and creative expression, we can rebuild our lives on solid ground.

"I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh."
