Your first 31 days: a spiritual foundation

Embark on a profound journey through your first thirty-one days with Sobriety to Church - He Leads Me. This initial month is a critical battle in the recovery process, where you'll confront spiritual realities and learn to hear God's guidance. Each day is designed to build a strong foundation, like the undergarments of your life—essential and protective.

DAY 1

What You May Be Feeling

You finally made it.

The drugs, alcohol, gambling, pornography, or whatever held you captive has been interrupted. For the first time in a long time, you're physically safe.

The Overload

Day One – The Overload

What You May Be Feeling

You finally made it.

The drugs, alcohol, gambling, pornography, or whatever held you captive has been interrupted. For the first time in a long time, you're physically safe.

Yet your mind isn't.

Everything feels overwhelming.

You're handed a notebook.

You're given a schedule.

You're surrounded by strangers.

Your thoughts race a hundred miles an hour.

"Who can I trust?"

"Who are these counselors?"

"Will this even work?"

"How am I going to fix my family?"

"What about my job?"

"How do I make amends?"

Your old life hasn't left your mind yet.

What the Devil Is Whispering

"You're wasting your time."

"These people don't understand you."

"You're different than everyone else."

"Just get through this so you can go back."

What God Is Saying

"Be still."

"You don't have to fix your whole life today."

"I only asked you to survive today."

"I'm protecting you while you don't even realize it."

Today's Victory

Don't solve tomorrow.

Don't fix your family.

Don't make promises.

Write one honest page in your notebook.

Eat.

Sleep.

Stay.

That is enough for today.

Scripture

"Be still, and know that I am God." — Psalm 46:10

Prayer

Jesus, my mind is racing. Slow me down. Help me trust that I don't have to repair my entire life today. Give me the strength to stay one more day. Amen.

Personal Bible Study

DAY ONE

Bible Study

Be Still... God Is Already Working

Read

Psalm 46:10

"Be still, and know that I am God."

What This Means

Your first day in treatment probably feels like chaos.

Your body is exhausted.

Your mind won't stop.

Your emotions are everywhere.

You think you should already know what tomorrow looks like.

God isn't asking you to figure out tomorrow.

He's asking you to survive today.

The hardest thing on Day One isn't the schedule.

It's letting go of control.

For years your addiction became your answer.

When life became difficult...

you drank.

you used.

you gambled.

you escaped.

Now God has removed your old solution.

It feels uncomfortable because He's preparing you for a new one.

Today He simply says...

"Be still."

Healing begins when we stop running.

Personal Reflection

Personal Reflection

Today write honestly.

No one else has to read this.

Answer these questions.

• What finally brought me here?

• What am I afraid of today?

• What am I hoping happens while I'm here?

• What part of my old life am I still holding onto?

• If Jesus sat beside my bed tonight, what would I ask Him?

STEP ONE

STEP ONE

Part One of Two

We admitted we were powerless over our addiction—that our lives had become unmanageable.

Step One doesn't begin by admitting you have a problem.

It begins by admitting...

"I can't fix me."

If you could have...

you already would have.

You tried promises.

You tried quitting tomorrow.

You tried changing friends.

You tried hiding it.

You tried controlling it.

Yet here you are.

That isn't failure.

That's honesty.

God can't fill hands that are still pretending they're full.

Today isn't about shame.

It's about surrender.

STEP WORK

Step Work

Write five ways addiction has become stronger than your own will.

Finish this sentence several times.

"I thought I was in control until..."

Examples

• I lost trust.

• I lied.

• I hurt people I love.

• I couldn't stop.

• I kept going back.

Don't rush.

Honesty is victory today.

Prayer

Jesus...

Today I stop pretending.

I admit I need You.

Help me stay one more day.

Amen.

DAY 2

What You May Be Feeling

MISSING YOUR OLD LIFE

Day Two – Missing Your Old Life

What You May Be Feeling

The bed feels clean.

The sheets smell fresh.

You notice the little things.

Your favorite shampoo.

Your beard oil.

Your lotion.

Your coffee mug.

Your pillow.

Your routine.

You begin missing your old comforts.

Not your addiction...

Just your life.

What the Devil Is Whispering

"See? Home wasn't that bad."

"You don't belong here."

"Go back."

What God Is Saying

"I'm teaching you that your comfort isn't your peace."

"Real peace comes from Me."

Today's Victory

Thank God for one new thing today.

Maybe it's a clean bed.

Maybe it's another sober person.

Maybe it's simply waking up alive.

Gratitude begins healing the heart.

Scripture

Philippians 4:11-13

Prayer

Lord, help me stop looking backward and start seeing what You're building today.

Personal Bible Study

DAY TWO

Bible Study

God Is Replacing Comfort With Peace

Read

Philippians 4:11-13

What This Means

Today you notice things.

The clean sheets.

Your favorite shampoo.

Your coffee.

The smell of home.

Your pillow.

Your routine.

You're grieving your old life.

That doesn't mean you miss your addiction.

It means your heart is learning the difference between comfort...

and peace.

Comfort comes from circumstances.

Peace comes from Christ.

You may never sleep in this bed again.

But God wants you to sleep in His peace every night.

That lasts forever.

Personal Reflection

Personal Reflection

Write about home.

• What comforts do I miss?

• Which comforts became unhealthy?

• What healthy routines do I want to build?

• What kind of person do I want to become after treatment?

Finish this sentence.

"Real peace looks like..."

STEP ONE

STEP ONE

Part Two of Two

Accepting That I Need Help

Yesterday you admitted you were powerless.

Today...

accept help.

Those are two different things.

Many people admit they have a problem.

Few allow someone else to help.

Pride says...

"I've got this."

Humility says...

"Teach me."

Every counselor...

every sponsor...

every recovery meeting...

every church service...

is another opportunity for God to speak.

Don't reject help because it comes through people.

God often answers prayers through the hands and voices of others.

STEP WORK

Step Work

Write the names of five people who can become part of your recovery.

Maybe it's...

• A counselor

• A sponsor

• A pastor

• A sober friend

• A family member

Beside each name write:

How can this person help me stay sober?

Finally answer this question honestly.

Why is it hard for me to ask for help?

Prayer

Father,

Thank You for not expecting me to do this alone. Give me the humility to receive help, the courage to be honest, and the wisdom to recognize the people You have placed in my life for this season. Help me trust You as I learn to trust others again.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

DAY 3

Day Three – The Comfort Trap

What You May Be Feeling

The Comfort Trap

Day Three – The Comfort Trap

What You May Be Feeling

Now your attention turns outward.

You begin judging everything.

The food.

The coffee.

The snacks.

The rules.

The schedule.

The people.

Your brain is looking for comfort because addiction trained it to chase comfort.

What the Devil Is Whispering

"This place isn't good enough."

"You deserve better."

"Just leave."

What God Is Saying

"I'm not changing your menu today...I'm changing your heart."

Today's Victory

Instead of criticizing...

Practice contentment.

Recovery starts when gratitude becomes stronger than complaining.

Scripture

1 Timothy 6:6

Personal Bible Study

DAY THREE

Bible Study

Learning Contentment Instead of Comfort

Read

1 Timothy 6:6–8

"But godliness with contentment is great gain..."

What This Means

By the third day, your eyes begin noticing everything around you.

The food.

The coffee.

The schedule.

The rules.

The people.

Your mind is searching for comfort because addiction trained you to chase whatever made you feel better.

When addiction leaves, your heart doesn't immediately know where to find peace.

So it starts complaining.

God isn't trying to make you comfortable.

He's trying to make you content.

Comfort depends on circumstances.

Contentment depends on Christ.

Every complaint is an opportunity to replace criticism with gratitude.

Today, don't ask, "What's wrong with this place?"

Ask, "What is God trying to teach me today?"

Personal Reflection

Personal Reflection

Answer honestly.

• What have I complained about today?

• What am I comparing this place to?

• Am I looking for reasons to leave or reasons to stay?

• List five things you're thankful for today.

Finish this sentence:

Today I realized...

STEP TWO

STEP TWO

Part One of Two

We came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.

Many people misunderstand Step Two.

It doesn't ask you to understand God.

It simply asks you to believe...

Maybe God really can help me.

On Day Three you begin noticing something.

People here smile.

Some laugh.

Some have peace.

Some have years of sobriety.

Something is different.

God begins planting hope.

Sanity isn't just thinking clearly.

It's learning there is another way to live.

STEP WORK

Step Work

Answer these questions.

What did addiction convince me was normal?

Examples:

• Lying

• Hiding

• Manipulating

• Using every day

• Living in fear

Now answer:

What would a healthy life look like?

Don't worry if you don't know.

Dream anyway.

Prayer

Lord,

Help me believe that You can change what I cannot. Replace my hopelessness with hope. Help me trust that You are already working, even if I don't see it yet.

Amen.

DAY 4

Day Four – Relationships

What You May Be Feeling

Relationships

Day Four – Relationships

What You May Be Feeling

Now your mind turns toward people.

Your family.

Your girlfriend.

Your boyfriend.

Your pastor.

Your friends.

You want to fix everything.

Or...

You want to avoid everyone.

What the Devil Is Whispering

"Nobody understands."

"Stay isolated."

"Your old friends need you."

What God Is Saying

"Before I restore old relationships, let Me build new healthy ones."

Today's Victory

Talk to one healthy person today.

One conversation can change your future.

Scripture

Proverbs 13:20

Personal Bible Study

DAY FOUR

Bible Study

God Is Building New Relationships

Read

Proverbs 13:20

"Walk with the wise and become wise..."

What This Means

By now your thoughts are turning toward people.

You miss family.

You miss friends.

You think about your boyfriend.

Your girlfriend.

Your children.

Your pastor.

Your old crowd.

You want to repair everything.

Or...

You want to run from everyone.

God understands both.

But before He restores old relationships...

He often gives you new ones.

Recovery isn't just about quitting addiction.

It's about learning to walk with healthy people.

The people beside you today may become some of the greatest blessings God ever gives you.

Personal Reflection

Personal Reflection

Write honestly.

Who encourages me?

Who pulls me backward?

Who makes me feel closer to God?

Who makes me want to use?

What kind of friend do I want to become?

STEP TWO

STEP TWO

Part Two of Two

Believing God Can Restore What Addiction Destroyed

Step Two isn't only believing God can restore your mind.

It's believing He can restore...

your relationships...

your future...

your purpose...

your heart.

You may not believe it yet.

That's okay.

Sometimes borrowed hope becomes personal hope.

Maybe today...

your counselor believes.

Your sponsor believes.

Your pastor believes.

Until your faith grows...

borrow theirs.

God isn't asking for perfect faith.

He's asking for willing faith.

STEP WORK

Step Work

Write the answers to these questions.

What area of my life seems impossible to fix?

Family?

Marriage?

Children?

Employment?

Self-worth?

Now answer:

What would my life look like if God completely restored me?

Don't limit God.

Dream with Him.

Finish this sentence five times.

I believe God can...

Prayer

Father,

Today I choose to believe that You are greater than my addiction, greater than my failures, and greater than my past. Even when my faith feels small, help me trust that You are restoring what has been broken. Teach me to hope again and to believe that with You, nothing is impossible.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.

DAY 5

Day Five – Two Voices

What You May Be Feeling

Two Voices

Day Five – Two Voices

What You May Be Feeling

You notice a battle inside you.

One voice says,

"Leave."

Another says,

"Stay."

You finally realize...

God has been speaking all week.

What the Devil Is Whispering

"You're missing out."

"One more time won't hurt."

What God Is Saying

"Welcome home."

"I'm proud of you."

"Stay close."

Today's Victory

Every time fear speaks...

Answer with gratitude.

"I am grateful..."

Gratitude silences temptation.

Scripture

James 4:7

Personal Bible Study

DAY FIVE

Bible Study

Two Voices

Read

James 4:7-8

"Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you."

What This Means

By the fifth day, something changes.

You begin hearing two different voices.

One voice reminds you of your old life.

"One more time won't hurt."

"You're missing out."

"Nobody needs to know."

The other voice is quieter.

"Stay."

"I'm with you."

"Keep going."

"You're finally safe."

For years you only listened to one voice.

Now, for the first time, you're learning to recognize the Shepherd's voice.

God has been speaking all week.

Today you're finally beginning to hear Him.

The question isn't...

"Is God speaking?"

The question is...

"Which voice will I follow?"

Personal Reflection

Personal Reflection

Take your notebook.

Draw a line down the center.

On the left write...

The Devil Has Been Saying...

On the right write...

God Has Been Saying...

Write honestly.

Then answer:

• Which voice usually gets my attention?

• Which voice brings peace?

• Which voice brings fear?

Finish this sentence:

Today I choose to believe...

STEP THREE

STEP THREE

Part One of Two

We made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.

Step Three isn't about perfection.

It's about a decision.

You don't have to understand everything.

You simply decide...

"God, I can't lead my own life anymore."

For years addiction drove the car.

Your emotions held the steering wheel.

Your impulses made the decisions.

Now...

God asks for the keys.

You still have a choice.

Will you continue driving...

or trust Him enough to let Him lead?

STEP WORK

Step Work

Finish these sentences.

I usually try to control...

I struggle to trust God with...

If Jesus were leading my life today...

He would probably ask me to...

Write one area of your life you're willing to surrender today.

Only one.

One surrender at a time.

Prayer

Father,

Today I hand You the steering wheel.

I don't know where You're taking me, but I know where my way led me.

Teach me to trust You.

Amen.

DAY 6

Day Six – The ICU

What You May Be Feeling

The ICU

Day Six – The ICU

What You May Be Feeling

Now you're convinced...

"I could probably do this myself."

"I've learned enough."

"I need to get back to work."

What the Devil Is Whispering

"You're fixed."

"You don't need this anymore."

What God Is Saying

"Your spirit is still in intensive care."

"Healing isn't finished because you finally feel better."

God isn't just removing addiction.

He's rebuilding your heart.

Today's Victory

Don't confuse relief with recovery.

Healing takes time.

Scripture

Isaiah 40:31

Personal Bible Study

DAY SIX

Bible Study

The ICU of the Spirit

Read

Isaiah 40:31

"But those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength..."

What This Means

Today you begin thinking...

"I've wasted enough time."

"I could be working."

"Maybe I don't need this anymore."

"I can do this by myself."

But what you cannot see...

is what God is doing.

Imagine someone leaving the hospital because they finally feel a little better.

The doctor would say...

"You're not healed yet."

Your spirit is the same way.

God isn't simply removing addiction.

He's rebuilding your heart.

Healing is happening beneath the surface.

Roots are growing.

Character is changing.

Faith is beginning.

Don't leave because you feel stronger.

Stay until God finishes what He started.

Personal Reflection

Personal Reflection

Answer honestly.

Why do I want to leave?

What am I afraid of missing?

What am I afraid of facing?

How has God already changed me this week?

Finish this sentence.

God is growing...

STEP THREE

STEP THREE

Part Two of Two

Letting God Stay in Control

Making the decision is only the beginning.

Now...

live it.

Every morning...

you'll decide again.

Every temptation...

you'll decide again.

Every argument...

you'll decide again.

Every fear...

you'll decide again.

Step Three isn't a one-time prayer.

It's a daily surrender.

Sometimes hourly.

Sometimes minute by minute.

The strongest Christians aren't the ones who surrender once.

They're the ones who wake up every morning saying...

"Lord, my life still belongs to You."

STEP WORK

Step Work

Write today's surrender prayer.

Don't copy someone else's.

Write your own.

Then make a list.

Today I choose to trust God with...

• My future

• My family

• My job

• My recovery

• My fears

• __________________

Sign and date it.

This isn't a contract.

It's a commitment.

Prayer

Jesus,

Thank You for carrying me this far.

Help me stop taking back what I've already placed in Your hands.

When I want control, remind me that Your plans are greater than mine.

Today I surrender my will, my future, and my recovery to You.

Walk beside me every step of the way.

Amen.

DAY 7

Day Seven – The Beginning

What You May Be Feeling

The Beginning

Day Seven – The Beginning

What You May Be Feeling

You're making phone calls.

Finding a ride.

Calling your boss.

Talking to family.

Planning your future.

What the Devil Is Whispering

"Now don't forget Me."

The devil doesn't care if you leave treatment.

He only cares if you leave Jesus.

What God Is Saying

"Please don't leave Me here."

"Make your home with Me."

"Take Me into your new life."

Treatment may end today...

But your relationship with Jesus is only beginning.

Today's Victory

Don't graduate from God.

Graduate with God.

Scripture

John 15:4

Prayer

Jesus, don't let me leave You behind. Walk with me into my new life. Build a new foundation that lasts for the rest of my days. Amen.

Why Every Day Mattered

DAY SEVEN

Why Every Day Mattered

If someone asked you what happened this week, you might say,

"Nothing."

But that's because you were looking at your body.

God was looking at your spirit.

Every day had a purpose.

Not one day was wasted.

Day One

God Stopped Your Running

You walked through the doors carrying years of pain.

Your body stopped.

Your addiction stopped.

But your mind kept running.

God wasn't asking you to figure everything out.

He simply wanted you to stay long enough for Him to begin.

Sometimes victory isn't moving forward.

Sometimes victory is simply not leaving.

Day Two

God Took Away Your Comfort

You missed your old routine.

The smell of your soap.

Your coffee.

Your pillow.

Your truck.

Your apartment.

The little things.

God wasn't trying to make you uncomfortable.

He was teaching you that your peace was never supposed to come from things.

It was supposed to come from Him.

Day Three

God Exposed Your Heart

You thought the problem was the food.

The coffee.

The schedule.

The people.

But the real battle wasn't outside.

It was inside.

God showed you that addiction trained your mind to constantly look for something to complain about or something to satisfy it.

Now He is teaching your heart to become content.

Day Four

God Began Changing Your Circle

You started thinking about family.

Friends.

Your boyfriend.

Your girlfriend.

The people waiting for you.

Some relationships need healing.

Some relationships need distance.

God isn't trying to replace your family.

He's giving you people who can help you become the person your family needs.

Day Five

You Began Hearing Two Conversations

The devil never stopped talking.

God never stopped talking.

The difference is...

Now you can hear both.

One fills you with fear.

The other fills you with hope.

Recovery is learning which voice deserves your attention.

Day Six

God Worked While You Couldn't See It

You thought...

"I've wasted a week."

God thought...

"I've planted seeds."

Seeds never look impressive underground.

Neither does healing.

The strongest roots grow where nobody is watching.

Day Seven

Don't Leave God Behind

Today you're making plans.

Someone is picking you up.

You're calling your boss.

Your family.

Your friends.

You're thinking about life again.

But don't forget...

This week wasn't about treatment.

It wasn't about counselors.

It wasn't about meetings.

It wasn't even about sobriety.

It was about meeting God.

Treatment was simply the place where He finally got your attention.

Now He's asking one thing...

"May I come home with you?"

Not just into your house.

Into your mornings.

Into your decisions.

Into your friendships.

Into your recovery.

Into your future.

Because if you leave treatment with Jesus...

You'll never have to walk alone again.

DAY 8

Looking in the Mirror

DAY EIGHT

Looking in the Mirror

Bible Study

God Cannot Heal What We Continue to Hide

Scripture

Lamentations 3:40

"Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord."

Teaching

Congratulations.

You've made it through your first week.

You haven't arrived...

You've simply become quiet enough to hear yourself think.

For years addiction gave you someone else to blame.

Your childhood.

Your spouse.

Your parents.

Your friends.

Your job.

The courts.

The church.

Life.

Some of those people truly hurt you.

Some wounds were real.

But today isn't about them.

Today God gently turns the mirror around.

Not to shame you.

To heal you.

Think about a doctor.

He cannot repair a broken bone until he first looks at the X-ray.

Step Four is God's X-ray.

It doesn't show you because He wants to condemn you.

It shows you because He loves you enough to heal what has been broken for years.

Some of what you'll discover will hurt.

Some will surprise you.

Some you'll cry over.

Some you'll laugh at because you'll finally understand why you reacted the way you did.

Today isn't about guilt.

It's about truth.

Truth is where freedom begins.

Personal Bible Study

Title: Looking in the Mirror

A person stands in front of a large mirror in a quiet room at dawn. In the reflection, instead of seeing only themselves, there is a warm light behind them with an open Bible and a cross faintly visible. A notebook rests on a table beside the mirror with the words "Truth Begins Here." The overall feeling should be one of hope, honesty, and quiet reflection—not guilt or fear.

Key verse on the graphic:

"Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord." — Lamentations 3:40

I think this is an important transition. Week One was about survival. Day 8 begins the work of transformation.

Personal Reflection

Personal Reflection

Today...

don't write about anyone else.

Write only about yourself.

Complete these sentences.

When someone criticized me...

I usually...

When I became afraid...

I usually...

When I felt lonely...

I usually...

When I felt rejected...

I usually...

When I felt ashamed...

I usually...

When I was happy...

I usually...

Look for patterns.

Not perfection.

Patterns.

STEP THREE

STEP FOUR

Part One of Two

We made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

Most people are afraid of Step Four.

Not because of what's on the paper.

Because of what they've spent years trying not to see.

God isn't asking you to become fearless before you write.

He's asking you to trust Him while you write.

A moral inventory isn't a list of how bad you are.

It's an honest picture of where healing needs to begin.

Think of it this way.

If your house had water leaking into the basement, would you ignore it?

Or would you find where the leak is coming from?

Your heart deserves the same attention.

You are not looking for reasons to hate yourself.

You are looking for places where Jesus wants to begin restoring you.

STEP WORK

Step Work

Today, make two lists.

List One

My Greatest Strengths

Write at least ten.

They can be small.

Kind.

Funny.

Hard worker.

Good listener.

Faithful friend.

Creative.

Honest.

Patient.

Don't rush this list.

God gave you gifts long before addiction entered your life.

List Two

My Greatest Struggles

Again...

write honestly.

Not to condemn yourself.

To understand yourself.

Examples.

Fear.

Anger.

People pleasing.

Control.

Pride.

Dishonesty.

Lust.

Resentment.

Self-pity.

Avoidance.

Impatience.

Notice...

Every struggle can become a place where God builds strength.

Homework

Tonight...

stand in front of a mirror.

Look into your own eyes for one full minute.

Don't say anything.

Just look.

Then pray this prayer.

Prayer

Father,

Today I ask You to help me see myself the way You see me.

Not through shame.

Not through pride.

But through truth.

Give me the courage to be honest about my strengths and my weaknesses. Show me the places where You want to bring healing. Help me remember that You already know everything about me, and yet You still love me.

As I begin this inventory, let it become the beginning of freedom—not the weight of condemnation. Thank You for loving me enough to reveal the truth and for promising never to leave me as I am.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.

DAY 9

The Truth Will Set You Free

DAY NINE

The Truth Will Set You Free

Bible Study

Read

John 8:31–32

"If you abide in My word, you are truly My disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

Teaching

Yesterday, you looked into the mirror.

Today...

look a little deeper.

One of the hardest things about Step Four is realizing that two things can be true at the same time.

You may have been deeply hurt.

You may also have hurt others.

Someone may have betrayed you.

Yet you may have learned to betray trust yourself.

Someone may have lied to you.

Yet somewhere along the way, you began lying to protect yourself.

This isn't about placing all the blame on yourself.

And it isn't about placing all the blame on someone else.

It's about telling the truth.

Addiction survives in darkness.

Truth lives in the light.

Think about carrying a backpack for years.

Every lie.

Every secret.

Every resentment.

Every regret.

Every hidden sin.

Every excuse.

You get so used to carrying it that you forget how heavy it is.

Step Four is finally opening that backpack.

Not so God can punish you...

So He can remove what you've been carrying.

Jesus never said the truth would make you comfortable.

He said the truth would make you free.

Freedom doesn't begin when you become perfect.

Freedom begins the moment you stop pretending.

God already knows every page of your story.

He's simply inviting you to let Him rewrite the ending.

Personal Reflection

Personal Reflection

Today answer honestly.

What truth about myself have I been avoiding?

What excuses have I used to protect my addiction?

What character defect shows up most often in my life?

Fear?

Control?

Pride?

Anger?

People-pleasing?

Self-pity?

Dishonesty?

What would change if I stopped defending myself and started asking God to change me?

Finish this sentence:

The truth that scares me the most is...

STEP FOUR

STEP FOUR

Part Two of Two

Completing My Moral Inventory

A moral inventory is not a list of failures.

It is a map.

A map tells you where you are...

so God can lead you to where He wants you to go.

Today, stop asking...

"Who is worse?"

Instead ask...

"Jesus, what do You want to heal first?"

Remember...

God doesn't reveal your weaknesses to embarrass you.

He reveals them because He intends to transform them.

STEP WORK

Step Work

Draw four columns in your journal.

Situation

What happened?

My Feelings

How did I feel?

My Reaction

What did I do?

God's Better Way

How could I have responded if I had trusted God?

Do this with at least five situations from your life.

Don't rush.

This isn't about writing quickly.

It's about seeing clearly.

Homework

Write a one-page letter titled:

"The Person I No Longer Want to Be."

Don't focus on addiction.

Focus on character.

Describe the attitudes, habits, fears, and reactions you want to leave behind.

When you're finished...

Write one sentence at the bottom.

"Jesus, make me into the person You created me to be."

Prayer

Father,

Thank You for loving me enough to tell me the truth. Give me the courage to stop hiding behind excuses and to walk honestly before You. Shine Your light into every hidden corner of my heart, not to condemn me, but to heal me.

Help me leave behind the person addiction shaped and become the person You created me to be. Let Your truth bring freedom, Your grace bring healing, and Your Spirit bring lasting change.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.

Today's Thought

The enemy wants you to believe that your past defines you.

God wants you to know that your honesty begins to redefine your future.

DAY 10

Secrets Lose Their Power

DAY TEN

Secrets Lose Their Power

Bible Study

Scripture

James 5:16

"Therefore confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed..."

Teaching

Yesterday you discovered something about yourself.

Today...

you stop carrying it alone.

One of addiction's greatest weapons is secrecy.

It convinces us that if people really knew us...

they would reject us.

So we become experts at hiding.

We hide our pain.

We hide our fears.

We hide our failures.

We hide our thoughts.

Eventually...

we even hide from ourselves.

The devil loves hidden things because hidden things continue to grow.

But God works differently.

He brings things into the light.

Think about mold growing behind a wall.

The longer it stays hidden...

the larger it becomes.

The moment someone tears away the wall...

the healing can begin.

Step Five is tearing away the wall.

Not so everyone knows your business.

But so you no longer live in isolation.

God already knows your story.

Step Five isn't about informing God.

It's about allowing another trusted believer to walk beside you without pretending.

The strongest Christians aren't those who have never failed.

They're the ones who no longer hide.

Freedom begins when secrets lose their power.

Personal Reflection

Personal Reflection

Think quietly today.

Answer honestly.

What secret have I carried the longest?

Why have I been afraid to tell someone?

Am I afraid of being judged...

or being known?

Who is one safe person I could trust?

What would freedom feel like if I no longer carried this burden?

Finish this sentence.

Today I am tired of hiding...

STEP FOUR

STEP FIVE

Part One of Two

"We admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs."

Notice the order.

First...

God.

Because He already knows.

Second...

Yourself.

Because denial keeps us sick.

Third...

Another person.

Because healing happens in relationship.

God never intended you to recover alone.

Choose someone who is mature...

trustworthy...

and who points you back to Christ.

Not someone who will shame you.

Not someone who enjoys gossip.

Someone who understands grace and truth.

Confession isn't weakness.

It's courage.

STEP WORK

Step Work

Today, don't write another inventory.

Instead, prepare your heart.

Write the answers to these questions.

What am I most afraid someone will discover about me?

What lie have I believed because I've kept it hidden?

What do I hope will happen after I confess?

Who has earned the right to hear my story?

Pray over that person's name.

Ask God if they are the right person.

Don't rush.

Homework

Write a letter titled:

"The Secrets I No Longer Want to Carry."

This letter is for you.

You do not have to share it today.

Simply begin writing.

When you're finished...

Place it inside your Bible.

Pray over it every day until God gives you peace about sharing it with the right person.

Prayer

Father,

Thank You for loving me completely, even while You know everything about me.

Help me stop living behind walls of fear and shame. Give me wisdom to choose the right person to share my story with, and give me courage to trust that Your grace is greater than my past.

Teach me that confession is not about humiliation—it is about healing. I no longer want to carry what Jesus already carried to the cross.

In His name,

Amen.

Devil's Tactic

"Keep it hidden. If anyone finds out, they'll reject you."

God's Truth

"The truth doesn't destroy you—it begins to heal you."

DAY 11

Freedom Begins When We Stop Pretending

DAY ELEVEN

Freedom Begins When We Stop Pretending

Bible Study

Scripture

Psalm 32:3–5

"When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long... Then I acknowledged my sin to You... and You forgave the guilt of my sin."

Teaching

There is a difference between being forgiven and living free.

The moment you trusted Christ, He forgave your sin.

But many believers continue carrying shame that Jesus already carried to the cross.

Why?

Because shame survives in silence.

Have you ever carried a heavy backpack all day?

At first you barely notice it.

After hours, your shoulders ache.

Your back hurts.

You're exhausted.

The strange thing is...

after carrying it long enough...

it begins to feel normal.

That's what shame does.

You become so used to carrying guilt that you forget what freedom feels like.

Step Five is taking the backpack off.

Not because God doesn't already know what's inside.

Because you were never created to carry it forever.

The devil wants you to believe your past is your identity.

Jesus says,

"Your past is where My grace met you."

Confession isn't telling God something He doesn't know.

It is agreeing with God that you no longer want to hide.

Healing begins when pretending ends.

Personal Bible Study

Personal Reflection

Personal Reflection

Spend time answering these questions honestly.

What have I been pretending is "not a big deal"?

What part of my story still brings shame?

Do I believe God has forgiven me...

or do I still believe I have to punish myself?

What would my life look like if I truly believed I was forgiven?

Finish this sentence.

Today I choose to stop pretending that...

STEP FIVE

STEP FIVE

Part Two of Two

Admitted to God, to Ourselves, and to Another Human Being

Notice something important.

Step Five is not about impressing someone.

It isn't about telling every person your story.

It is about choosing one mature, trustworthy person who will point you back to Christ.

Confession is never about humiliation.

It is about healing.

When you speak truth out loud...

the lies begin losing their power.

The goal is not to relive your past.

The goal is to stop letting your past control your future.

God's grace is greater than your worst day.

His mercy is greater than your deepest regret.

STEP WORK

Step Work

Today, prepare for your Step Five conversation.

Write down:

What I Need to Say

List the things you know God has placed on your heart to confess.

Then write:

What I Hope God Will Do

How do you hope this step changes your life?

Finally write:

What Am I Still Afraid Of?

Give every fear to God in prayer.

Homework

Write a letter to your future self.

Title it:

"The Day I Stopped Hiding."

Write about how you hope you'll look back on this moment one year from now.

Describe the freedom you believe God is beginning today.

Seal the letter.

Read it again after one year of sobriety.

Prayer

Father,

Thank You that I don't have to hide from You.

You have always known my story, my failures, and my deepest wounds, yet You have never stopped loving me.

Help me trust that confession is not the end of my story—it is the beginning of my freedom.

Replace my shame with Your grace.

Replace my fear with Your peace.

Teach me to walk in the freedom Jesus purchased for me on the cross.

Today I choose truth over hiding.

I choose healing over shame.

I choose You.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.

Devil's Tactic

"If people knew the real you, they would never accept you."

God's Truth

"The people God places in your life for healing will point you to Christ, not condemn you. His grace is greater than your past."

DAY 12

The Person Behind the Addiction

DAY TWELVE

The Person Behind the Addiction

Bible Study

Scripture

Ephesians 4:22–24

"Put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life... and be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness."

Teaching

Addiction was never your identity.

It was your symptom.

Behind every addiction is a person.

A person who became afraid.

A person who learned unhealthy ways to cope.

A person who carried pain, disappointment, loneliness, anger, pride, fear, or rejection.

Many people spend years trying to stop the addiction without ever asking...

"What kind of person have I become?"

Step Six asks a different question.

"Lord... what parts of me still need You?"

God isn't only removing alcohol.

He wants to remove bitterness.

He isn't only removing drugs.

He wants to remove pride.

He isn't only removing pornography.

He wants to remove shame.

He isn't only removing gambling.

He wants to remove fear.

The addiction may have been the fruit.

But God wants to heal the root.

Recovery isn't becoming a better addict.

It's becoming a new creation in Christ.

Every day you spend with Jesus...

He shapes your character.

One decision.

One prayer.

One surrendered heart at a time.

Personal Bible Study

Personal Reflection

Personal Reflection

Today don't think about addiction.

Think about your character.

Complete these sentences honestly.

When I become afraid...

I usually become...

When someone disagrees with me...

I become...

When I don't get my way...

I usually...

The hardest part of my personality for others to live with is...

The part of my character I most want Jesus to change is...

STEP SIX

STEP SIX

Part One of Two

"We were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character."

Notice the wording.

Entirely ready.

Not halfway.

Not someday.

Not after one more mistake.

God will never force change upon us.

He waits for willing hearts.

Ask yourself today.

Am I holding on to any part of my old life because it still feels comfortable?

Sometimes people are willing to give up addiction...

but not anger.

Not control.

Not manipulation.

Not selfishness.

Not pride.

Healing begins when we say,

"Lord... remove whatever keeps me from becoming the person You created me to be."

STEP WORK

Step Work

Write two columns.

Character Defects I Want God to Remove

Examples:

Fear

Pride

Control

Dishonesty

Jealousy

Bitterness

People-pleasing

Laziness

Self-pity

Impatience

Resentment

Anger

Godly Character I Want Him to Build

Examples:

Peace

Humility

Patience

Kindness

Self-control

Faithfulness

Honesty

Joy

Gentleness

Courage

Forgiveness

Write at least ten in each column.

Then draw arrows from one list to the other.

Example:

Fear ➜ Trust

Pride ➜ Humility

Bitterness ➜ Forgiveness

Control ➜ Surrender

Homework

Stand before a mirror tonight.

Read your second list out loud.

Not who you are today...

Who you believe God is making you become.

End by saying:

"Lord, I am willing."

Prayer

Father,

Thank You for loving me enough to change me.

Show me the parts of my heart that still need Your healing.

Help me stop protecting old habits, old attitudes, and old ways of thinking.

Make me willing—not just to quit addiction—but to become more like Jesus.

Build in me the fruit of Your Spirit.

Shape my character.

Renew my mind.

Transform my heart.

I trust You with the person I am becoming.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.

Devil's Tactic

"You'll always be this way. People never really change."

God's Truth

"If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come." — 2 Corinthians 5:17

DAY 13

Lord, Change Me First

DAY THIRTEEN

Lord, Change Me First

Bible Study

Scripture

Psalm 139:23–24

"Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."

Teaching

Many of us prayed for years...

"Lord, change my circumstances."

"Change my spouse."

"Change my family."

"Change my boss."

"Change my finances."

But Step Six teaches a different prayer.

"Lord... change me."

That is one of the hardest prayers a Christian will ever pray.

Because real change begins in the heart.

Sometimes we want God to remove the addiction...

but keep our pride.

We want peace...

but we don't want to forgive.

We want a better future...

but we don't want to surrender control.

God never changes us to make us less like ourselves.

He changes us to make us more like Christ.

Think about a sculptor.

When he looks at a block of marble, he already sees the masterpiece inside.

Every strike of the hammer removes what doesn't belong.

The marble doesn't understand every strike.

Neither do we.

But the Master does.

Every lesson...

Every prayer...

Every act of surrender...

Every difficult conversation...

God is removing what doesn't belong so the person He created can finally be seen.

The question today isn't...

"Can God change me?"

The question is...

"Am I willing to let Him?"

Personal Bible Study

Personal Reflection

Personal Reflection

Sit quietly with God today.

Ask yourself:

What attitude am I still protecting?

What habit am I secretly afraid to give up?

What character defect keeps showing up?

Do I trust God's plan more than my own?

Finish these sentences.

Lord, I know You are asking me to let go of...

I believe You are building...

STEP SIX

STEP SIX

Part Two of Two

Becoming Willing

Being willing doesn't mean you'll never struggle again.

It means you've stopped arguing with God.

Willingness is saying...

"Lord, I may not understand everything You're doing...

but I trust You."

Sometimes God changes us overnight.

Sometimes He changes us one decision at a time.

Both are miracles.

Don't measure God's work by speed.

Measure it by surrender.

Today ask yourself...

Am I fighting God...

or following Him?

STEP WORK

Step Work

Draw two circles.

Inside the first circle write:

Things I Still Want to Control

Examples:

My future

Other people

My reputation

My finances

My recovery

My fears

Inside the second circle write:

Things I Am Giving to God

Write the same list again.

Now draw arrows from the first circle to the second.

This is your surrender exercise.

Finish by writing:

"Lord, I release these into Your hands."

Homework

Go outside today.

Find a rock that fits in the palm of your hand.

Carry it with you for one hour.

Notice its weight.

When the hour is over...

Place it at the foot of a tree, a cross, or somewhere meaningful.

As you set it down, pray:

"Jesus, I'm done carrying what belongs to You."

Let the rock become a reminder that surrender is a daily choice.

Prayer

Father,

Search my heart today.

Show me the places where I still resist Your work.

Give me the humility to stop fighting Your plans and the courage to trust that every change You make is for my good.

Take away the attitudes, fears, and habits that keep me from becoming more like Jesus.

I surrender my heart, my future, and my will to You.

Shape me into the person You created me to be.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.

Devil's Tactic

"You can change a few things, but don't let God have everything."

God's Truth

"God doesn't ask for part of your heart. He asks for all of it, because He wants to heal all of it."

DAY 14

Looking Back Before Moving Forward

DAY FOURTEEN

Looking Back Before Moving Forward

Bible Study

Scripture

Philippians 1:6

"Being confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."

Teaching

Two weeks ago...

you walked into treatment wondering if you could survive.

Today...

you've survived fourteen days.

You may still struggle.

You may still have cravings.

You may still have fears.

But you are not the same person who walked through those doors.

Sometimes we become so focused on how far we still have to go...

that we forget how far God has already brought us.

The enemy wants you to look at what still needs fixing.

God wants you to remember what He has already healed.

Look back.

Remember Day One.

Your mind raced.

You couldn't slow your thoughts.

You didn't know who to trust.

Now...

God has begun giving you peace.

Remember Day Three.

You judged everything around you.

Today...

you're beginning to examine yourself instead.

Remember Step Four.

God showed you what was hiding in your heart.

Remember Step Five.

Secrets began losing their power.

Remember Step Six.

You stopped asking God to change everyone else...

and began asking Him to change you.

God has been working every single day.

Not always where you could see it...

but always where you needed it.

My Week with God

PRAYER

Prayer

Father,

Thank You for walking with me these past two weeks.

Thank You for every lesson, every correction, every answered prayer, and every quiet moment when You were working even though I couldn't see it.

Help me never forget what You have revealed to me.

Give me the courage to keep growing, the humility to keep learning, and the faith to keep following You one day at a time.

Continue the good work You have begun in me.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.

Devil's Tactic

"You're still not changing fast enough."

God's Truth

"Growth isn't measured by speed. It's measured by surrender."

Week Two Graduation

What God Did

✓ Revealed my heart

✓ Brought hidden things into the light

✓ Began changing my character

✓ Taught me surrender

✓ Showed me His grace

Preparing for Week Three

Next Week...

We begin rebuilding relationships.

Forgiveness.

Humility.

Making amends.

Walking in obedience.

Not because you've become perfect...

But because Jesus is making you new.

DAY 15

Strength Through Humility

DAY FIFTEEN

Strength Through Humility

Bible Study

Scripture

James 4:10

"Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up."

Teaching

Humility is often misunderstood.

Many people think humility means thinking less of yourself.

The Bible teaches something different.

Humility means seeing yourself honestly before God.

Not pretending you're better.

Not believing you're worthless.

Simply understanding that without Christ...

you cannot become the person He created you to be.

Addiction often whispers,

"I can handle this myself."

Pride says,

"I don't need anyone's help."

Fear says,

"If I let go, everything will fall apart."

Humility says,

"Lord, I trust You more than I trust myself."

Think about Peter walking on the water.

As long as Peter kept his eyes on Jesus...

he walked.

The moment he focused on the wind and the waves...

he began to sink.

Recovery works the same way.

When your eyes stay on your failures...

you become discouraged.

When your eyes stay on Jesus...

you keep moving forward.

God never asked you to transform yourself.

He asked you to trust the One who can.

Humility is not weakness.

Humility is complete dependence on God's strength.

Personal Bible Study

Personal Reflection

Personal Reflection

Today, answer honestly.

Where does pride still show up in my life?

Is it difficult for me to ask for help?

Do I become defensive when someone corrects me?

Am I trying to control things that belong to God?

Finish these sentences.

Today I need God's help with...

Lord, I cannot change this without You...

STEP SEVEN

STEP SEVEN

Part One of Two

"We humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings."

Notice something important.

Step Seven doesn't say...

"We removed our shortcomings."

It says...

We asked Him.

God does what we cannot.

We cooperate.

He transforms.

This step teaches dependence.

Every morning...

pray.

Every temptation...

pray.

Every fear...

pray.

Every victory...

thank Him.

Humility isn't a feeling.

It's a lifestyle of depending on God every single day.

STEP WORK

Step Work

Write two lists.

Things I Cannot Change Alone

Examples:

My past

Other people

My addiction

My fears

My character

My future

Now write:

Ways God Has Already Helped Me

List at least ten ways God has already shown His faithfulness since beginning this journey.

Big or small.

Nothing is insignificant.

Homework

Find a quiet place today.

Kneel beside your bed, a chair, or outside in nature.

Spend ten uninterrupted minutes simply thanking God.

Don't ask Him for anything.

Only thank Him.

When you're finished, write one page beginning with:

"Lord, thank You for..."

Prayer

Father,

Today I come before You with an open heart.

I admit that I cannot become the person You created me to be by my own strength.

Teach me to depend on You daily.

Replace my pride with humility.

Replace my fear with faith.

Help me keep my eyes on Jesus instead of my circumstances.

Thank You for lifting me up when I could not stand on my own.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.

Devil's Tactic

"You don't need God's help anymore. You've made it this far on your own."

God's Truth

"Apart from Me you can do nothing."John 15:5

DAY 16

Looking Through God's Eyes

DAY SIXTEEN

Looking Through God's Eyes

Bible Study

Scripture

Colossians 3:12–14

"Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another... And over all these virtues put on love."

Teaching

Something beautiful begins happening around this point in recovery.

Your mind becomes quieter.

Your heart becomes softer.

For the first time in a long time...

you begin thinking about someone besides yourself.

That is one of the first signs that God is healing your heart.

Step Eight isn't about making phone calls.

It isn't about apologizing yet.

It begins much deeper.

It begins by seeing people through God's eyes.

Addiction teaches us to ask,

"How does this person affect me?"

Jesus teaches us to ask,

"How have I affected this person?"

That is a completely different way of living.

As your relationship with Christ grows, you'll begin remembering people.

Some memories will make you smile.

Some will bring tears.

Some will remind you of words you wish you had never spoken.

Don't run from those memories.

Invite Jesus into them.

Not every relationship can be restored.

Not every conversation can happen.

But every heart can begin to heal.

Before you can make things right with others...

God wants to make your heart right toward them.

Personal Bible Study

Personal Reflection

Personal Reflection

Today, don't write names yet.

Instead, think about relationships.

Answer honestly.

What kind of friend have I been?

What kind of son or daughter have I been?

What kind of husband, wife, boyfriend, or girlfriend have I been?

What kind of parent have I been?

What kind of employee or coworker have I been?

Finish this sentence.

Lord, help me become someone who...

STEP EIGHT

STEP EIGHT

Part One of Two

"We made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all."

Notice what Step Eight does not say.

It does not say:

"Call everyone today."

It says:

Make a list.

And...

Become willing.

Sometimes willingness comes before action.

God is preparing your heart before He directs your steps.

This isn't about carrying guilt.

It's about allowing grace to produce responsibility.

You cannot rewrite yesterday.

But with God's help...

you can walk differently tomorrow.

STEP WORK

Step Work

In your journal, create four columns.

Family

Who in my family was affected by my addiction or my choices?

Friends

Who did I neglect, disappoint, or hurt?

Work

Who lost trust because of my actions?

Others

Neighbors

Church

Community

People I may have forgotten.

Don't write details today.

Only names.

Pray over every name as you write it.

Homework

Choose one person from your list.

Do not contact them yet.

Instead...

Pray for them every day this week.

Ask God to bless them.

Ask God to heal them.

Ask God to prepare both of your hearts.

Sometimes healing begins in prayer long before it begins in conversation.

Prayer

Father,

Thank You for opening my eyes to the people around me.

Help me see them with compassion instead of fear, humility instead of pride, and love instead of guilt.

Prepare my heart before You prepare my words.

Give me wisdom to know the right time, the right attitude, and the right way to make things right.

Teach me to love people the way You have loved me.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.

Devil's Tactic

"It's too late. They'll never forgive you."

God's Truth

"With God, healing begins the moment a willing heart says yes."

DAY 17

Preparing My Heart

DAY SEVENTEEN

Preparing My Heart

Bible Study

Scripture

Ezekiel 36:26

"I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will remove your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh."

Teaching

God isn't just changing your behavior.

He's changing your heart.

There was a time when you may have avoided difficult conversations.

Ignored people you hurt.

Blamed others.

Made excuses.

Or simply hoped time would erase the pain.

But time doesn't heal broken relationships.

God does.

Step Eight is not about checking names off a list.

It's about allowing God to soften your heart before He opens the door to restoration.

Sometimes we want to apologize because we feel guilty.

Sometimes we want forgiveness so we can feel better.

But God asks something deeper.

"Do you genuinely care about the person you hurt?"

That changes everything.

A changed heart doesn't seek forgiveness only for itself.

A changed heart desires healing for others.

Some people may never forgive you.

Some may not be ready.

Some conversations may never happen.

But your responsibility is not controlling their response.

Your responsibility is allowing God to prepare your heart.

Before God changes relationships...

He changes motives.

Personal Bible Study

Personal Reflection

Personal Reflection

Today ask yourself honestly.

If someone never forgave me...

would I still want God's best for them?

Am I trying to make myself feel better...

or do I truly want healing?

What emotions come up when I think about making amends?

Fear?

Embarrassment?

Hope?

Shame?

Write a prayer for one person on your list.

Not about yourself.

Only about them.

Ask God to bless them.

STEP EIGHT

STEP EIGHT

Part Two of Two

Becoming Willing to Make Amends

Step Eight teaches willingness.

Not pressure.

Not panic.

Not rushing.

God's timing matters.

Pray before every conversation.

Ask questions before assuming.

Listen before speaking.

Love before defending yourself.

Remember...

Making amends is never about winning an argument.

It's about honoring Christ.

Sometimes the greatest amends are lived consistently over time.

A changed life often speaks louder than perfect words.

STEP WORK

Step Work

Return to the list you made yesterday.

Beside each name write one word.

Examples:

Forgiveness

Patience

Prayer

Time

Wisdom

Courage

Humility

This word represents what you believe God is asking you to practice before speaking with that person.

Then ask:

Lord, what do You want to teach me through this relationship?

Homework

Choose one person from your list.

Spend fifteen minutes praying only for them.

Pray for their family.

Their health.

Their peace.

Their relationship with God.

Do not pray about yourself.

Practice loving someone through prayer.

Prayer

Father,

Thank You for giving me a new heart.

Continue softening the places that have become hard through pain, fear, and addiction.

Help me seek restoration with humility, wisdom, and genuine love.

Prepare me before You prepare the conversation.

Teach me to love people without expecting anything in return.

May my life reflect the grace You have shown me.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.

Devil's Tactic

"If they don't forgive you, your effort was wasted."

God's Truth

"Obedience is your responsibility. The outcome belongs to God."

DAY 18

Restoring What Can Be Restored

DAY EIGHTEEN

Restoring What Can Be Restored

Bible Study

Scripture

Matthew 5:23–24

"If you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there... First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift."

Teaching

Forgiveness and reconciliation are not always the same thing.

You may forgive someone...

and they may never trust you again.

You may sincerely apologize...

and they may not be ready to receive it.

Step Nine teaches something very important.

Your responsibility is obedience.

The outcome belongs to God.

Many people are afraid of making amends because they imagine every conversation going badly.

The enemy whispers,

"Don't even try."

God says,

"Trust Me one conversation at a time."

Making amends isn't about forcing someone to forgive you.

It isn't about defending yourself.

It isn't about explaining why you did what you did.

It isn't about expecting anything in return.

Making amends simply says...

"I acknowledge the hurt I caused, and I take responsibility for my actions."

Sometimes the most powerful words you'll ever speak are...

"I was wrong."

No excuses.

No blaming.

No "if."

No "but."

Just truth.

That kind of humility reflects the heart of Christ.

Personal Bible Study

Personal Reflection

Personal Reflection

Today ask yourself.

When I apologize...

do I expect something back?

Do I become discouraged if someone doesn't respond the way I hoped?

Am I willing to make things right...

even if no one thanks me?

Finish these sentences.

Lord, teach me to apologize without...

Help me seek healing instead of...

STEP NINE

STEP NINE

Part One of Two

"We made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others."

Notice the wisdom.

The step says...

"Wherever possible."

Some people have passed away.

Some relationships would be harmed by reopening old wounds.

Some situations require counsel from a pastor, sponsor, or mature believer before taking action.

God never asks you to cause more damage in the name of healing.

Pray first.

Seek wisdom.

Move with humility.

Trust God's timing.

STEP WORK

Step Work

Return to your list of names.

Beside each one write one of these:

Ready

I believe God is preparing this conversation.

Wait

I need more prayer and wisdom.

Not Appropriate

Making contact could cause greater harm.

Do not make these decisions alone if you're unsure.

Pray with your sponsor, pastor, or trusted Christian mentor.

Homework

Practice your apology.

Stand in front of a mirror.

Say these words slowly.

"I was wrong."

"I hurt you."

"I take responsibility."

"I'm asking for your forgiveness."

Stop there.

Don't explain.

Don't defend yourself.

Simply practice humility.

Prayer

Father,

Thank You for showing me that true restoration begins with humility.

Give me wisdom to know when to speak, when to wait, and when to remain silent.

Help me seek reconciliation without selfish motives.

Teach me to trust You with every outcome.

May every conversation reflect the love, grace, and truth that Jesus has shown to me.

In His name,

Amen.

Devil's Tactic

"If they don't accept your apology, don't even bother trying."

God's Truth

"Obedience is success. The results belong to God."

DAY 19

Let Your Life Speak

DAY NINETEEN

Let Your Life Speak

Bible Study

Scripture

Luke 3:8

"Produce fruit in keeping with repentance."

Teaching

Words are important.

But changed lives are even more powerful.

Imagine someone who stole from you for years.

One day they came and said,

"I'm sorry."

That would matter.

But what if they also spent the next five years becoming honest?

Showing up on time.

Keeping promises.

Living with integrity.

Eventually...

their life would begin speaking louder than their apology.

God isn't looking for perfect speeches.

He's looking for transformed lives.

Some people may never believe your words.

That's okay.

Keep living differently.

One day...

they may believe your actions.

Step Nine reminds us that making amends is more than saying,

"I'm sorry."

It means becoming someone who no longer continues the same patterns.

It means rebuilding trust...

one decision...

one conversation...

one faithful day at a time.

Recovery isn't proven in one moment.

It's revealed in consistent obedience.

Every day you choose truth...

Every day you choose prayer...

Every day you choose honesty...

Your life becomes the testimony.

Personal Bible Study

Personal Reflection

Personal Reflection

Today think about your daily life.

If someone watched me for one week...

Would they see Christ changing me?

Am I becoming more dependable?

More patient?

More honest?

More forgiving?

More humble?

Finish these sentences.

The change I want people to notice is...

Today my actions will show...

STEP NINE

STEP NINE

Part Two of Two

Living Your Amends

Some apologies happen in one conversation.

Some happen over a lifetime.

If you hurt your children...

become a faithful parent.

If you hurt your spouse...

become a trustworthy husband or wife.

If you stole from your employer...

become the employee everyone can depend on.

If you damaged your testimony...

begin building a new one.

Don't rush people.

Don't pressure forgiveness.

Simply let your life become evidence that Jesus is changing your heart.

Your consistency will often say more than your words ever could.

STEP WORK

Step Work

Return to your list.

Beside each name answer this question.

What would a living amends look like?

Examples:

Being dependable.

Keeping my promises.

Speaking kindly.

Paying back what I owe.

Praying for them.

Respecting boundaries.

Serving without expecting recognition.

Write one practical action beside every name.

Homework

Choose one area of your life today where you can quietly demonstrate change.

Do it without announcing it.

Without expecting praise.

Without telling anyone.

Let your obedience become worship.

At the end of the day, write:

"Today my actions reflected Christ when..."

Prayer

Father,

Thank You for teaching me that real repentance produces lasting fruit.

Help my life reflect the change You are working inside me.

Teach me to be patient while trust is rebuilt.

Help me live with integrity, humility, and consistency.

May my words and my actions agree.

Let others see Jesus through the way I live every day.

In His name,

Amen.

Devil's Tactic

"You've already apologized. That's enough."

God's Truth

"Real repentance produces fruit that others can see."

DAY 20

Keep a Short Account with God

DAY TWENTY

Keep a Short Account with God

Bible Study

Scripture

1 John 1:9

"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

Teaching

Imagine never taking out your household garbage.

One day wouldn't seem too bad.

Two days...

maybe still manageable.

But after weeks...

the smell would fill the house.

The problem wasn't one piece of trash.

It was allowing little things to accumulate.

Our spiritual lives work the same way.

Step Ten teaches us not to wait until life falls apart before talking to God.

Instead...

we clean our hearts every day.

Not because we fear losing God's love...

but because we value our fellowship with Him.

Many people relapse long before they ever pick up a drink or drug.

It starts with small compromises.

Skipping prayer.

Skipping Bible reading.

Holding on to resentment.

Ignoring conviction.

Living two different lives.

Those little things pile up.

Step Ten says,

"Don't wait."

Talk to God today.

Apologize today.

Forgive today.

Pray today.

Repent today.

A clean heart hears God more clearly than a cluttered one.

Don't carry today's mistakes into tomorrow.

Personal Bible Study

Personal Reflection

Personal Reflection

Think about today.

Not last year.

Not last month.

Today.

Did I speak kindly?

Did I tell the truth?

Did I spend time with God?

Did I encourage someone?

Did I allow anger to grow?

Did I ignore the Holy Spirit?

Finish these sentences.

Today I am thankful for...

Today I need God's forgiveness for...

STEP TEN

STEP TEN

Part One of Two

"We continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it."

Notice the first word.

Continued.

Recovery doesn't end.

Discipleship doesn't end.

Growth doesn't end.

Neither does humility.

Healthy Christians don't become perfect.

They become quicker to admit when they're wrong.

Step Ten is daily maintenance.

The same way you brush your teeth every morning...

you examine your heart every evening.

Not with fear.

With gratitude.

God isn't waiting to condemn you.

He's waiting to restore fellowship.

STEP WORK

Step Work

Begin your first Daily Inventory Journal.

Every evening answer these questions.

Today...

  1. Where did I see God?
  2. Where was I tempted?
  3. Did I respond with Christlike character?
  4. Do I owe anyone an apology?
  5. What am I grateful for?
  6. What will I do differently tomorrow?

This becomes your daily spiritual habit.

Homework

Tonight, before going to bed, spend ten quiet minutes with your Bible and journal.

Do not ask for anything.

Simply review your day with God.

Imagine Jesus walking beside you through every hour.

Write one page titled:

"Walking Through Today with Jesus."

Prayer

Father,

Thank You for walking with me today.

Thank You for every opportunity to grow, every lesson You taught me, and every moment You reminded me of Your grace.

Help me develop a habit of daily repentance, daily gratitude, and daily fellowship with You.

Teach me to keep my heart clean before You.

May I never drift far because I ignored the small things.

Help me stay close to You every single day.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.

Devil's Tactic

"It's only a little compromise. It doesn't matter."

God's Truth

"Small compromises become big strongholds if they are ignored."

DAY 21

Looking Back Before Moving Forward

DAY TWENTY-ONE

Looking Back Before Moving Forward

Week Three Graduation

Scripture

Isaiah 43:18–19

"Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?"

Teaching

Three weeks ago...

you walked into treatment carrying more than addiction.

You carried shame.

Fear.

Secrets.

Broken relationships.

Regret.

You carried years of trying to survive.

Today...

look at what God has already begun.

He has shown you your heart.

He has taught you honesty.

He has softened your spirit.

He has begun restoring relationships.

He has taught you that every day matters.

The devil wants you to keep looking backward.

God says,

"I'm doing a new thing."

Notice what Isaiah says.

Not...

"I will someday."

He says...

"I am doing a new thing."

God is already working.

Sometimes you don't notice because you're focused on what still needs fixing.

But stop for a moment.

Three weeks ago...

Would you have been willing to admit your faults?

Would you have prayed for people you had hurt?

Would you have begun rebuilding trust?

Would you have ended every day talking with God?

Probably not.

But look where you are today.

You're not finished.

You're being transformed.

Growth isn't measured by perfection.

Growth is measured by surrender.

Homework

Read every journal entry from Days 15–20.

Highlight every place where:

  • God answered a prayer.
  • You recognized growth.
  • You admitted a weakness.
  • You chose obedience.

Prayer

Father,

Thank You for every step You have walked with me these past three weeks.

Thank You for the prayers You have answered, the truth You have shown me, and the healing You have begun.

Help me never forget what You have revealed.

Continue building humility, honesty, faithfulness, and love inside me.

✓ Honest Self-Examination

✓ A Lifestyle of Repentance

Preparing for Week Four

Beginning Tomorrow...

You will discover that recovery isn't simply about staying sober.

It's about walking with God every day.

Week Four begins the final steps:

  • Learning to hear God's voice more clearly.
  • Strengthening your prayer life.
  • Living as a daily witness for Christ.
  • Becoming someone who helps others find hope.

Your foundation has been poured.

Now God will begin teaching you how to build upon it.

DAY 22

Learning to Hear God's Voice

DAY TWENTY-TWO

Learning to Hear God's Voice

Bible Study

Scripture

John 10:27

"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me."

Teaching

One of the greatest fears of a new Christian is this:

"How do I know if God is speaking to me?"

At first...

we expect something dramatic.

A loud voice.

A sign from heaven.

A miracle.

Sometimes God works that way.

But most often...

He speaks quietly.

He speaks through His Word.

He speaks while you're praying.

He speaks through the conviction of the Holy Spirit.

He speaks through mature believers.

He speaks through circumstances.

The problem usually isn't that God has stopped speaking.

The problem is that our lives have become too noisy.

For years addiction trained us to react immediately.

God teaches us to become still.

Sometimes the answer isn't another sermon.

Sometimes it isn't another podcast.

Sometimes it isn't another opinion.

Sometimes...

God simply says,

"Sit with Me."

Notice how a shepherd speaks to sheep.

He doesn't scream all day.

The sheep learn his voice because they spend time with him.

The more time you spend with Jesus...

the easier it becomes to recognize His voice.

This is why your "undergarments" matter so much.

Daily Bible reading.

Daily prayer.

Daily journaling.

Daily quietness.

Those hidden habits train your spiritual ears.

Personal Bible Study

Personal Reflection

Personal Reflection

Today, answer honestly.

When was the last time I sat quietly with God without asking Him for anything?

What distractions keep me from hearing Him?

Do I fill every quiet moment with my phone...

television...

music...

or constant activity?

Finish these sentences.

Lord, I hear You most clearly when...

Today I want to spend more time...

STEP ELEVEN

STEP ELEVEN

Part One of Two

"We sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out."

Notice something beautiful.

Step Eleven doesn't say...

"Pray for everything you want."

It says...

Pray for God's will.

That changes everything.

Instead of asking,

"Lord, bless my plans."

We begin asking,

"Lord, show me Yours."

That prayer will transform your life.

STEP WORK

Step Work

Today begin a new journal page titled:

Hearing God

Draw three columns.

What I Read

Write one verse.

What I Believe God Is Teaching Me

Write one lesson.

How I Will Obey Today

Write one action.

This becomes your "Listening Journal."

Homework

Set a timer for 20 minutes.

No phone.

No music.

No television.

Sit quietly with your Bible.

Read one chapter slowly.

Write down every word or verse that stands out.

Don't rush.

Don't force anything.

Simply enjoy being with your Father.

Prayer

Father,

Thank You that You are still speaking today.

Forgive me for the times I have filled my life with so much noise that I could not hear You.

Teach me to recognize Your voice through Your Word, Your Spirit, and quiet moments in Your presence.

Give me a heart that listens before it speaks and obeys before it understands everything.

I don't simply want answers.

I want You.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.

Devil's Tactic

"God isn't speaking to you."

God's Truth

"My sheep hear My voice, and they follow Me."

DAY 23

Testing the Voices

DAY TWENTY-THREE

Testing the Voices

Bible Study

Scripture

1 John 4:1

"Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God..."

Teaching

Not every thought that enters your mind comes from God.

That surprises many new believers.

For years...

your mind has been a battlefield.

Addiction spoke.

Fear spoke.

Shame spoke.

Pride spoke.

The enemy whispered lies.

Then one day...

Jesus began speaking truth.

Now comes the learning process.

How do you know the difference?

The enemy usually speaks with urgency.

"Do it now!"

"You're a failure!"

"God doesn't love you."

"You'll never change."

God's voice is different.

It is firm...

but peaceful.

It convicts...

but it does not condemn.

It leads you toward Christ...

never away from Him.

The enemy pushes.

God leads.

The enemy accuses.

The Holy Spirit corrects.

The enemy creates confusion.

God brings clarity.

One of the greatest gifts you can develop is learning to pause before reacting.

Not every thought deserves your attention.

Not every feeling deserves your obedience.

Not every voice deserves your trust.

Test every thought against God's Word.

If it doesn't agree with Scripture...

it isn't from God.

Personal Bible Study

Personal Reflection

Personal Reflection

STEP ELEVEN

STEP ELEVEN

Part Two of Two

Improving My Conscious Contact with God

Prayer is talking with God.

Meditation is filling your mind with God's truth.

Discernment is learning the difference between His voice...

your voice...

and the enemy's voice.

The more you know Scripture...

the easier it becomes to recognize truth.

God will never tell you something that contradicts His Word.

That is one of the greatest protections He has given us.

STEP WORK

Step Work

Draw three columns.

This Thought

Write a thought you've had today.

Who Does It Sound Like?

God

Self

Enemy

What Does God's Word Say?

Find one Bible verse that answers that thought.

Do this with at least five thoughts.

Begin training your mind to answer lies with Scripture.

Homework

Whenever a negative thought enters your mind today...

Don't argue with it.

Write it down.

Then immediately find one Bible verse that answers it.

Build your own notebook called:

God's Answers

This notebook will become one of your greatest weapons.

Prayer

Father,

Thank You for speaking truth into my life.

Help me recognize Your voice above every other voice.

Teach me to test every thought against Your Word.

When fear comes, remind me of Your promises.

When shame comes, remind me of the cross.

When confusion comes, remind me that You are not the author of confusion.

Fill my mind with truth, my heart with peace, and my life with obedience.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.

Devil's Tactic

"Believe every thought that enters your mind."

God's Truth

"Take every thought captive to obey Christ." (2 Corinthians 10:5)

DAY 24

Becoming a Living Testimony

DAY TWENTY-FOUR

Becoming a Living Testimony

Bible Study

Scripture

Matthew 5:16

"Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven."

Teaching

When most people hear the word testimony, they immediately think about telling their story.

But before you tell your story...

people watch your life.

Your children.

Your family.

Your coworkers.

Your church.

Your neighbors.

They're asking questions long before they ever ask you about Jesus.

Do you keep your word?

Do you show up?

Do you work hard?

Do you forgive?

Do you pray?

Do you love people who are difficult?

Your life is preaching every single day.

The greatest testimony isn't the story of who you were.

It's the evidence of who Jesus is making you become.

Someone may never read the Bible.

But they may read your life.

Someone may never attend church.

But they may notice your peace.

Someone may never ask about recovery.

But they'll notice your consistency.

People are watching.

Not because they're waiting for you to fail.

Because they're hoping someone really can change.

Let them see Jesus.

Not perfection.

Faithfulness.

Personal Bible Study

Personal Reflection

Personal Reflection

Who is watching my life today?

My children?

Lord, help my life demonstrate...

The person I want others to meet through me is...

STEP TWELVE

STEP TWELVE

Part One of Two

"Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps..."

Notice where Step Twelve begins.

Not with helping others.

With your awakening.

God changes you first.

Then your life naturally begins changing others.

You don't have to force it.

You don't have to impress anyone.

Simply continue walking with Jesus.

Healthy trees naturally produce fruit.

Healthy Christians naturally influence people.

STEP WORK

Step Work

Make a page titled:

My Testimony Today

Write three sections.

Who I Was

Not just your addiction.

Who were you spiritually?

What Jesus Has Done

How has Christ changed you?

Who I Am Becoming

Not who you've become...

Who you are becoming.

Keep this to one page.

Simple.

Honest.

Hope-filled.

Homework

Today perform one act of kindness that nobody knows about.

Don't tell anyone.

Don't post it.

Don't mention it.

Let it remain between you and God.

Learn to serve for His approval instead of people's applause.

Prayer

Father,

Thank You for changing my life.

Help me become someone whose actions reflect Your love every day.

Teach me to serve quietly, love generously, and live faithfully.

May my life point people to Jesus before my words ever do.

Keep me humble, teachable, and willing to shine Your light wherever You place me.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.

Devil's Tactic

"Your past has ruined your witness."

God's Truth

"Your transformed life is becoming your greatest testimony."

DAY 25

One Day at a Time with Jesus

DAY TWENTY-FIVE

One Day at a Time with Jesus

Bible Study

Scripture

Luke 9:23

"If anyone would come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me."

Teaching

Recovery is not an event.

Salvation is not an event.

Discipleship is not an event.

They are daily decisions.

One of the biggest mistakes people make is believing they have "arrived."

The moment we stop growing...

we begin drifting.

Jesus never said,

"Follow Me for thirty-one days."

He said,

"Follow Me daily."

Every morning...

you have a decision.

Will I follow my feelings...

or my Father?

Will I follow fear...

or faith?

Will I follow my old habits...

or the Holy Spirit?

Your greatest victory is not found in one dramatic moment.

It is found in thousands of quiet decisions.

Reading your Bible when no one is watching.

Praying when nobody knows.

Forgiving when it hurts.

Serving without recognition.

Choosing truth over temptation.

Those are the moments that build a life.

A strong Christian isn't built in one sermon.

He's built one faithful day at a time.

Personal Bible Study

Personal Reflection

Personal Reflection

Think about your future.

What daily habit do I never want to lose?

Which "undergarment" has become the strongest part of my life?

Which one still needs work?

Tomorrow I will begin by...

STEP TWELVE

STEP TWELVE

Part Two of Two

Carrying This Way of Life

The final part of Step Twelve says:

"...and to practice these principles in all our affairs."

Notice...

Not just at church.

Not just during meetings.

Not just around Christians.

In all our affairs.

At work.

At home.

With family.

While driving.

While shopping.

While serving.

While leading.

Jesus didn't call us to live two different lives.

He called us to follow Him everywhere.

The goal isn't simply staying sober.

The goal is becoming more like Christ every day.

STEP WORK

Step Work

Create a page titled:

My Daily Rule of Life

Write your daily commitments.

Examples:

☐ Read my Bible.

☐ Pray before checking my phone.

☐ Journal.

☐ Encourage one person.

☐ Spend quiet time listening to God.

☐ Attend church regularly.

☐ Stay connected to Christian friends.

☐ End every day with gratitude.

Keep this page where you'll see it every morning.

Homework

Write a letter to yourself titled:

"The Person I Want to Be One Year From Today."

Describe:

How you pray.

How you serve.

How your family sees you.

How your church knows you.

How your workplace describes you.

How your relationship with Jesus has grown.

Then seal the letter.

Open it one year from today.

Prayer

Father,

Thank You for bringing me through these first twenty-five days.

Thank You for teaching me to trust You, hear Your voice, and walk with You.

Help me remember that following Jesus is not a destination—it is a daily journey.

Keep me faithful in the small things.

Help me remain humble, teachable, and dependent on You.

May my life continue reflecting Your love wherever I go.

One day at a time.

One prayer at a time.

One step at a time.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.

Devil's Tactic

"You've learned enough. You don't need to keep growing."

God's Truth

"Follow Me... daily." (Luke 9:23)

Heart Examination

DAY TWENTY-SEVEN

Heart Examination

Building the Person God Can Trust

(Steps 5–8)

Scripture

Proverbs 4:23

"Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it."

Teaching

God has spent this month working somewhere nobody else can see.

Not your appearance.

Not your reputation.

Your heart.

Why?

Because every decision...

every relationship...

every temptation...

every ministry...

flows from your heart.

Many people stop drinking...

but never allow God to change their heart.

They become sober...

but remain angry.

Sober...

but proud.

Sober...

but unforgiving.

Jesus came to do much more than remove addiction.

He came to give you a new heart.

Today isn't about remembering Bible verses.

It's about asking one question.

Has my heart changed?

DAY 28

Kingdom Examination

DAY TWENTY-EIGHT

Kingdom Examination

Living Like Jesus Every Day

(Steps 9–12)

Scripture

Matthew 7:24–25

"Everyone then who hears these words of Mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock."

Teaching

For twenty-eight days...

you've been building.

Prayer.

Bible reading.

Honesty.

Humility.

Forgiveness.

Character.

Relationships.

Listening to God.

Now comes one final question before Month Two.

Can this foundation support the life God wants to build?

Many people want God to build a beautiful house...

without digging a deep foundation.

Jesus taught the opposite.

The storms don't determine whether your house stands.

The foundation does.

The temptation to relapse...

The difficult family member...

Financial pressure...

Loneliness...

Church hurt...

Those storms reveal what you've been building all month.

God isn't looking for perfect people.

He's looking for people who keep building when no one else notices.

The Christian life isn't measured by one emotional experience.

It is measured by thousands of faithful decisions.

Today...

you're examining the house you've begun building.

HOMEWORK

Kingdom Examination

  4. Do I confess sin before it becomes a habit?

STEP ELEVEN

Hearing God

  1. Can I recognize God's voice more clearly today than one month ago?
  2. Do I spend quiet time with Him?
  3. Am I making decisions through prayer...

or emotion?

STEP TWELVE

Living My Testimony

  1. Does my family see Jesus in me?
  2. Does my church experience humility from me?
  3. Does my workplace trust me?
  4. If someone followed me for one week...

DAY 29

Welcome Home

DAY TWENTY-NINE

Welcome Home

Building the Living Room of Your Life

Beginning Month Two

Scripture

Psalm 37:4

"Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart."

Teaching

For the past month...

God has been pouring your foundation.

Prayer.

Scripture.

Journaling.

Honesty.

Humility.

Repentance.

Those are your spiritual undergarments.

No one sees them...

but they support everything.

Now it's time to build the first room of your spiritual house.

The living room.

Why the living room?

Because that's where life happens.

Conversations.

Laughter.

Friendships.

Family.

Rest.

Hospitality.

Recovery isn't only about what you've left behind.

It's also about discovering what God is placing in front of you.

Many people coming out of addiction ask,

"Now what do I do?"

The answer isn't,

"Sit around trying not to relapse."

God wants you to begin living.

Maybe you've always wanted to paint.

Fish.

Build furniture.

Write.

Play music.

Garden.

Cook.

Photograph nature.

Volunteer.

Read.

Walk.

Exercise.

Learn an instrument.

Learn a trade.

For years...

addiction consumed your free time.

Now God is teaching you how to redeem it.

Healthy hobbies don't replace God.

They become gifts you enjoy because you're walking with Him.

As your foundation grows stronger...

your life begins filling with healthy things.

Not because you have to.

Because you're finally free enough to enjoy them.

Review

Personal Reflection

When I was younger...

What did I love doing?

What dreams did addiction steal from me?

What healthy interest has God been putting on my heart?

"I have come that they may have life, and have it abundantly." (John 10:10)

Month Two Assignment

My New Living Room

This month I want to discover...

A new hobby.

A new friendship.

A new place to enjoy God's creation.

A new way to serve.

A new reason to laugh.

A new reason to thank God.

Picture Theme

Title: Welcome Home – Building the Living Room of Your Life

A warm, inviting living room is filled with natural morning light. A Bible and journal rest on a coffee table beside a steaming cup of coffee. Around the room are symbols of healthy living: a guitar leaning in the corner, a fishing pole by the door, a camera on a shelf, gardening gloves beside a houseplant, books, art supplies, and family photos. A man sits peacefully in an armchair reading his Bible before beginning his day, showing that his relationship with God remains the center of the home. Through the window, a beautiful sunrise shines across the yard.

DAY 30

Building the Conversation Room

DAY THIRTY

Building the Conversation Room

Learning Healthy Relationships

Month Two

Scripture

James 1:19

"Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry."

Teaching

One of the greatest gifts God gives us is people.

One of the greatest fears many people in recovery have...

is people.

Maybe you spent years hiding.

Maybe addiction became your closest companion.

Maybe you forgot how to enjoy a simple conversation.

Maybe every conversation became about surviving.

Now God is teaching something new.

Healthy relationships.

Healthy conversations.

Healthy boundaries.

The first month taught you how to build your foundation.

Now God begins furnishing your house.

The conversation room is where people begin feeling safe.

Not because you always have the right answers.

But because they know they'll be heard.

Jesus asked questions.

He listened.

He noticed people.

He wasn't always the first to speak.

Healthy Christians do the same.

Not every conversation needs your opinion.

Sometimes...

your greatest ministry is simply listening.

The more you listen...

the more you understand.

The more you understand...

the better you love.

And the better you love...

the more people experience Jesus through you.

Personal Reflection

Answer honestly.

When someone talks to me...

Do I interrupt?

Do I think about my answer before they're finished?

Do I make every conversation about myself?

Do I really listen?

Complete these sentences.

The hardest conversation for me is...

One thing I can improve today is...

Conversation Exercise

Conversation Exercise

Read each statement.

Write how you would respond.

A friend says,

"I'm struggling."

What do you say?

Someone tells you about a difficult day.

Do you immediately tell your story...

or ask another question?

Write your response.

Someone disagrees with you.

What does humility sound like?

A new Christian asks,

"How do I begin praying?"

What would you say?

Healthy Conversation Checklist

Today...

☐ I listened more than I talked.

☐ I asked good questions.

☐ I encouraged someone.

☐ I avoided gossip.

☐ I spoke truth with kindness.

☐ I thanked someone.

☐ I smiled.

☐ I prayed before difficult conversations.

Homework

Choose one person today.

Ask them about their life.

Listen for at least fifteen minutes.

Do not interrupt.

Do not tell your story unless they ask.

Afterward write:

What did I learn?

What surprised me?

How did listening change the conversation?

Prayer

Father,

Thank You for placing people in my life.

Teach me to love them the way Jesus loves me.

Help me become someone who listens before speaking, understands before judging, and encourages before correcting.

Guard my words.

Give me wisdom in every conversation.

Help my home become a place where people experience peace, honesty, and grace.

Use my words to build others up and never tear them down.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.

Devil's Tactic

"Make sure everyone hears your voice."

God's Truth

"Be quick to listen, slow to speak..." (James 1:19)

Conversation Homework

Write down the names of five people you want to know better.

Beside each name write one meaningful question you could ask them.

Examples:

"What has God been teaching you lately?"

"What brings you joy?"

"How can I pray for you?"

"What are your goals this year?"

"What do you enjoy doing?"

Building My Conversation Room

Every healthy house has a room where people feel welcome.

Every healthy Christian becomes someone others feel safe talking to.

As God changes your heart...

He also changes the way you relate to people.

DAY 31

Welcome to Your New Life

DAY THIRTY-ONE

Welcome to Your New Life

Standing at the Front Door

Scripture

Philippians 1:6

"Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."

Teaching

Thirty-one days ago...

you walked through a different door.

Many of you came carrying fear.

Shame.

Addiction.

Confusion.

Broken relationships.

Questions.

Some of you wondered if God even wanted you.

Today...

you're standing at another door.

Not the door into treatment.

The door into a new life.

You've learned that prayer is your foundation.

God's Word is your daily bread.

Honesty brings freedom.

Humility opens the door for growth.

Relationships can heal.

God still speaks.

Your testimony matters.

You have begun building your house.

But remember...

A house isn't built in one month.

Neither is a disciple.

Today isn't the finish line.

It's the beginning.

Over the coming months, God will continue building room after room in your life.

He'll teach you how to enjoy healthy hobbies.

How to build healthy friendships.

How to recognize character.

How to trust wisely.

How to discover your gifts.

How to serve His Kingdom.

How to prepare for work, school, family, ministry, and leadership.

Most importantly...

He'll continue teaching you how to walk with Him.

One day at a time.

Looking Back

What has changed most during these thirty-one days?

My relationship with God:

My thinking:

My prayer life:

My relationships:

My hope:

Looking Ahead

This year...

I want God to teach me...

I believe God is preparing me to...

The room of my house I most want Him to build next is...

My Personal Covenant

Today I choose...

☐ To continue reading God's Word.

☐ To continue praying daily.

☐ To remain connected to a Bible-believing church.

☐ To continue journaling.

☐ To keep learning.

☐ To forgive quickly.

☐ To live honestly.
